First Mailing continues its journey to becoming net zero

As the year begins to draw to a close, we reflect on what a year it’s been. As we all know, starting 2021 in another lockdown was not the fresh start anyone had hoped for, but we have all had to learn to adapt in these times and make changes for the good of our employees, customers and the environment.Journey to net zero

We have found great comfort in our journey towards running a greener business. During the year, we introduced our eco-friendly paper wrapping service, and switched much of our poly production to high clarity, bio-degradable film. We also installed two water-based inkjet systems for direct addressing of naked mailers, needing no outer packaging at all.

But those aren’t the only ways we are reducing our carbon footprint.

We’ve been drawing some of our energy from our solar panels since 2012 and are now looking at installing a Hydrogen-ready CHP unit to simultaneously deliver our heating and power energy. We continue to only use LED lighting and we are proud of our recycling efforts.

As a company, First Mailing is committed to becoming carbon neutral. Indeed, owner and MD, Stuart Searle, said:

I have ambitious plans to move, as quickly as we can, to net zero. This is a priority for me personally and the installation of a CHP unit that can run off hydrogen is an important milestone in achieving that.
