First Mailing continues its expansion capacity by adding to its line up of high speed printing with two further Inkjet address and coding machines. These are used primarily for naked and one piece mailers as it sees an increase in low cost, high volume direct mail seeing great returns for many of its online and retail clients. Each production line can address a mail piece at over 25,000 items an hour, providing double the existing output.

Huntingdon based First Mailing adds paper wrapping to its lineup of services to meet clients demand for paper-based recyclable mail products doing away with plastics. Its new wrapping line will handle packs in size from undersized A5 to oversized A4 catering for all of its current publications.

The paper wrapping machine will convert mail reels of plain or pre-printed paper into finished mailpacks wrapped around the product which give excellent advertising opportunity and revenue.

Additionally, as the Royal Mail moves towards discounts for Mailmark services, paper wrapping helps to provide the lowest distribution costs with the highest standards of print and aesthetics

“Paper-wrapping adds to the range of mail products we offer delivering superior printed mail solutions through to the cost-effective naked mailers, all with limited impact on the environment with everything we now make and send out can be easily recycled” advised Stuart Searle, Managing Director.

Designed to produce 6-9,000 packs an hour depending on the finished size the machines will manufacture at a similar speed to polywrapping but with added eco-credentials!

Paper wrapping is a premium products designed to make impact and trigger interaction. Considering the advertising and engagement benefits, the supplementary cost of production is minimal.

Throughout August we have been celebrating our 20 Year Anniversary, a huge milestone for our business. Over the past month we have been reminiscing and have celebrated our incredible progression as a company.

We are extremely proud of the progression that we have made over the past 20 years, embracing new challenges and continually investing in our staff and services to maintain a superior standard.

First Mailing started out offering basic Envelope Inserting and Polywrapping, however we now are able to offer a vast array of services. These services include Data Management, Print and Personalisation of a large variety of products & materials, Fulfilment, Postage Discounts and Digital Marketing.

Over the years we have fully embraced challenges the industry has presented to us such as adopting ISO accreditation’s, General Data Protection Regulations, the Blue Planet effect and the ever evolving Digital Market.

We want to take this opportunity to express a warm thank you to all of our customers, staff members and suppliers over the last 20 years.

So we’ve all seen recent media coverage regarding plastic pollution – much of this is completely avoidable by recycling or using one of the compostable options which we’ve offered for over 10 years. Our standard LDPE code 4 polyfilm is fully recyclable. So chuck it in your recycling bin, simple.

We’ve offered compostable film alternatives for years. It’s a great alternative and goes straight in your green bin instead, it costs a few pennies more but it’s cheaper than paper. These films have recently improved to be clearer and have a longer shelf life prior to use so will only degrade after use.

Organisations such as the RSPB & the National Trust have adopted compostable poly for the distribution of their publications. True, they are huge runs but due to increased demand compostable poly can now be bought by the roll, off the shelf so it can be used for shorter run lengths.

Compostable Polythene Facts:
· The fully degradable polythene is made from potato starch and does not contain any plastics, harmful toxins or oil based materials
· The polythene has a softer feel compared to plastic and also has a slightly milkier finish
· It can simply be put out with your garden waste or dug into the soil so it decomposes
· Compostable polythene may be more expensive than recyclable polythene but it can degrade within days/weeks in the right environment

Polythene was introduced to reduce the deforestation needed to meet paper demands, it serves a purpose, it’s lightweight so cheaper to post out, it’s also recyclable, and has less impact on the environment when it’s made.

Royal Mail’s Suggested Pricing is expected to increase on the following services

• Royal Mail 24® and Royal Mail 48® will increase on average by 2.8% (excluding add-ons and surcharges)
• Royal Mail Advertising Mail Parcels will increase up by 3%
• Royal Mail Publishing Mail will increase by up to 5%
• Royal Mail International Tracking and Signature services will increase on average by 0.6%
• Royal Mail International Standard services will increase on average by 2.6%
• Royal Mail International Economy services will increase on average by 2.5%

By using alternative postal operators and access to a range of different services, firstMailing can offer further discounted rates.

• Unsorted Large Letter – 65p an item saving 7%*
